2022 Sport for Life Canadian Summit welcomes Dr. Ibram X. Kendi as keynote speaker

Sport for Life is thrilled to announce that Dr. Ibram X. Kendi will be one of the keynote speakers during this year’s Summit, speaking on how Canadian sport and physical activity organizations can rise as a catalyst for racial equity.

Dr. Kendi is author of five straight #1 New York Times bestsellers. In 2020, Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. His relentless and passionate research puts into question the notion of a post-racial society and opens readers’ and audiences’ eyes to the reality of racism in America today. Kendi’s events are sharp, informative, and hopeful, serving as a strong platform for the anti-racism work that was begun during the 2021 Sport for Life Canadian Summit.

“In one of his many books, How to Be an Antiracist, he not only explains the pathway to becoming an antiracist, he demonstrates his personal journey of becoming an antiracist, about breaking down the structures fabricated by racist ideas,” said Kabir Hosein, Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives for Sport for Life.

According to Billie Tes, Sport for Life’s Manager of People and Culture, Kendi will provide a roadmap to pursue large-scale culture change.

“Dr. Kendi has shown through his own incredible personal pursuits and his commitment to anti-racist work, the need for societal structures to evolve to include more opportunities for everyone to participate in sports and physical activity,” said Tes.

“All the while thinking about the importance of dismantling racist ideas, which is as important as creating anti-racist policies.”
