Are you passionate about promoting physical literacy and quality sport in your community? Our comprehensive Education Program offers a range of certifications designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to become leaders and champions across three certification pathways:

Our Physical Literacy certifications provide a pathway for front-line workers to enhance their competence and understanding of physical literacy concepts. 

Starting with Level 1, participants gain a solid foundation in the principles of physical literacy and learn how to cultivate a sense of belonging in sport and physical activity. 

As they progress through Levels 2 and 3, individuals delve deeper into designing and delivering quality programs that effectively enhance physical literacy development, with a particular focus on inclusive practices and experiences for diverse populations.

Two streams are available for Level 3

  • Active for Life: The flexible programming in this certification provides participants with various elective modules to choose from as they build the components of this advanced designation to fit the demands of their careers.  
  • Assessment: This certification recognizes advanced training in physical literacy assessment using PLAY Tools.

<b>Level 1: Foundations of Physical Literacy</b>

This entry-level certification equips front-line workers with the competence to advocate for the development of physical literacy in their communities. Gain a comprehensive understanding of physical literacy concepts and cultivate a sense of belonging in sport and physical activity. 

This certification serves as the stepping stone for those pursuing the Physical Literacy Leader Level 2 and 3 designation in the Physical Literacy stream.

Requirements for certification at this level are:

<b>Level 2: Enhancing Physical Literacy</b>

Designed for front-line physical activity workers, this intermediate certification prepares you to design and deliver high-quality programs that effectively enhance participants’ physical literacy development. Explore topics such as inclusive physical literacy and tailored experiences for equity-deserving groups. Equipped with this knowledge, you’ll be empowered to design and deliver impactful physical literacy experiences within your community.

Prerequisites: Completion of Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1

Requirements for certification at this level are:

<b>Level 3: Advanced Physical Literacy (Active for Life)</b>

Attain advanced recognition with the Physical Literacy Leader – Level 3 certification with the Active for Life specialization. Certified Level 3s are acknowledged for their advanced physical literacy knowledge and skills. This flexible program offers a variety of elective modules, allowing participants to customize their certification and address the specific demands of their career. Expand your expertise in physical literacy and become a trusted leader in promoting lifelong physical activity and well-being.

Completion of two further eLearnings and two further workshops is required, alongside completion of workshop-specific quizzes, for certification at this level. 

Prerequisites: Completion of Physical Literacy Leader – Level 2

Requirements for certification at this level are:

  • eLearning Courses:

<b>Level 3: Advanced Physical Literacy (Assessment)</b>

This certification recognizes advanced training in using the PLAY Tools for comprehensive physical literacy assessment. Sharpen your observation skills and contribute to evidence-based practices in promoting physical literacy among youth.

Prerequisites: Completion of Physical Literacy Leader – Level 2

Requirements for certification at this level are:

  • eLearning Course: 
    • Physical Literacy Assessment Training
  • Workshop:
    • Physical Literacy Assessment
  • Pre-recorded Webinar:
    • Introduction to the PLAY Website & Database
  • Assessment Training:
    • Minimum of four hours of physical literacy assessment with youth

Designed to develop and support good people, good places, and good programs, these certifications support sport leaders (locally, provincially/territorially, and nationally), recreation leaders, and sport funders to build and offer exceptional sport experiences in communities. This certification equips them with the tools to design developmentally appropriate activities that promote fun, inclusivity, and skill development. 

By fostering a supportive environment and prioritizing the well-being of participants, you will be elevating sport experiences to new heights.

Level 1 provides a foundational understanding of what it takes to offer quality sport experiences in our communities, familiarizing leaders and coaches with the Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity framework, and its stages of development.

This certification provides a solid foundation by demonstrating to participants how to develop and support good people, good places, and good programs within the realm of sport.

Certified individuals gain a comprehensive understanding of the Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity framework. Through this certification, you will become familiar with the primary objectives of each stage of development. By acquiring this knowledge, you will be equipped to create engaging, safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate sport and physical literacy experiences for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Requirements for certification at this level are:

These certifications cater specifically to educators and provide them with the tools to adapt their teaching methods and environments to foster physical literacy experiences for students. 

Starting at Level 1, educators gain an understanding of physical literacy concepts and learn how to integrate physical literacy into their schools. 

Progressing to Level 2, educators develop skills in fostering inclusivity, promoting physical literacy, and using diverse teaching methods to create a supportive environment for their students.

Educators who advance to Level 3 will demonstrate physical literacy expertise and be empowered to deliver high-quality physical literacy programs and mentorship within a school setting.

With a focus on empowerment and engagement, this certification equips educators to enhance students’ physical development and promote a comprehensive understanding of physical literacy.

Prerequisites: This pathway is exclusively for educators. Completion of School Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1 is required.

This certification was designed to recognize educators with expertise in promoting physical literacy within a school setting. As a School Physical Literacy Leader – Level 3 (Mentor), you will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to take a leadership role, making a lasting impact in your school. This certification dives into elementary school physical literacy approaches and inclusive practices while advancing your proficiency in physical literacy observation.

Prerequisites: This pathway is exclusively for educators. Completion of School Physical Literacy Leader – Level 2 and Sport for Life approval is required. To express interest in this certification, contact digital@sportforlife.ca.

  • 20+ hours of in-person training covering the following topics:
