E-learning course aims to improve organizational communication

Communication is a critical component of any sport organization, and the way information is dispersed to volunteers can affect the success of the entire operation.

With the new e-learning course titled Effective Communication, available on our online campus, we aim to fine-tune your communication strategies so you can share knowledge and information in a streamlined way.

“Anybody who has experienced communication troubles within their organization, or who wants to be proactive about learning new online and digital strategies will be well served by this course,” said Zac Andrus, Senior Coordinator of Digital Services at Sport for Life.

“As people move away from face-to-face meetings and rely on technology, we want to make sure that sport organizations can keep pace. This e-learning module offers you the tools and suggestions you need to identify gaps in your communication strategy and figure out how to fill them.”

The single most important consideration when dealing with volunteers is how we communicate with them. Effective communication will achieve shared understanding, direct the flow of information, help people overcome barriers to open discussion, stimulate others to take action to achieve goals, and channel information to encourage people to think in new ways and to act more effectively. This e-learning course will allow organizations to achieve all of these goals at a higher level.

The course was developed with inclusion in mind, one of Sport for Life’s key values. Inclusion is both the removal of physical, cultural, economic, and attitudinal barriers to participation, and the designing of activities so that individuals are not excluded. Being allowed to take part is not enough. Every participant must feel safe, welcomed and included. Supports need to be in place to engage and serve the diverse needs of participants, across all of the dimensions that make up that individual.

Part of inclusion is respecting each other’s culture. Culture is often at the root of communication challenges. Exploring historical experiences and the ways in which various cultural groups have related to each other is the key to opening channels for cross-cultural communication. Becoming more aware of cultural differences, as well as exploring cultural similarities, can help you communicate with others more effectively. You will learn more on this topic and other various aspects of communication with volunteers in your organization.

The e-learning course is $24.95, and can be accessed through our Campus at sporforlife.ca.
