School Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1 (Elementary) can now be completed fully on-demand on Sport for Life Campus, in English and French. Previously, individuals could not complete this certification without first participating in a live group workshop. Now the full certification — including all workshop content — is available on-demand, giving elementary educators a self-paced pathway built around the realities of their school day.
The certification helps educators integrate movement into classrooms, gyms, playgrounds, and transitions — with practical, evidence-based strategies that boost student focus, reduce anxiety, and support learning outcomes. It covers social-emotional learning, physical literacy observation, practical strategies for movement in the classroom, and training on PLAYBuilder.
Whether you teach a specific subject, lead physical education, or support diverse learners, the content is designed for the environments where elementary students move and learn.
What’s Inside
The certification includes:
Social and Emotional Learning for Educators: This on-demand course introduces the five core competencies of social-emotional learning, explores how unconscious biases can impact teaching, and provides strategies to support respect, equity, and inclusion.
Energize Minds, Empower Bodies: Practical Strategies for Movement in the Classroom (Part 1 and Part 2): Part 1 (The Blueprint) provides a foundational understanding of physical literacy and its role in supporting learning, well-being, and lifelong participation in physical activity. It explores why movement matters in schools, the five key characteristics of meaningful physical activity, and how to create movement-rich learning environments. Part 2 (The Build) focuses on practical strategies for integrating movement into academic lessons, transitions, social-emotional learning, and classroom management, including the use of music, rhythm, and creative movement.
Physical Literacy Observation for Educators: This workshop helps educators confidently observe, support, and enhance movement skill development in school settings. Participants explore how movement skills develop, what to look for during observation, and how to provide meaningful feedback that supports student growth.
Introduction to PLAYBuilder: Learn to use PLAYBuilder — Sport for Life’s activity database with 2,000+ ready-made activities and a built-in term planner to organize programming across the school year.
Assessments are included for Energize Minds, Empower Bodies (Parts 1 and 2), Introduction to PLAYBuilder, and Physical Literacy Observation for Educators.
Together, these courses give educators practical tools to integrate movement intentionally across the school day, observe students’ physical literacy development, embed social-emotional learning, and plan programming using PLAYBuilder.
