Sport for Life extends its sincerest congratulations to the Honourable Pascale St-Onge on being appointed as Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec.
It is clear through the Sport for All funding announced as part of the 2021 budget and other federal initiatives that the value of sport and physical activity, particularly with regard to Canada’s recovery efforts, is recognized and supported under this government’s leadership. Sport for Life looks forward to working with Minister St-Onge to achieve the ministry’s mandate.
Based on the work Sport for Life has undertaken with Canadian communities through to National Sport Organizations, including its community-based program delivery (e.g. Physical Literacy for Communities and Quality Sport for Communities and Clubs), the organization has seen the positive impact physical literacy and quality sport development can have on building community resilience, fostering inclusive, safe and positive sport experiences, and increasing physical activity.
“We very much look forward to collaborating with the federal government and others in the sector to continue to improve the quality of sport for everyone living in what is now called Canada,” said Sport for Life’s CEO Richard Way.
Sport for Life strongly believes inclusive and accessible sport and physical activity starts at the community level, and welcomes the ways in which the organization can contribute to initiatives that derive from Minister St-Onge’s leadership as the Minister of Sport through its programs and services.
