Sport for Life Expands Post-secondary Partnership Program with Georgian College

Sport for Life’s national Post-secondary Partnership Program grew in fall 2025 with the addition of Georgian College to its network of educational partners. This collaboration joined successful partnerships with institutions including Acadia University, Algonquin College, Cambrian College, Collège Boréal d’arts appliqués et de technologie, and Memorial University of Newfoundland—each working to embed physical literacy education into their programs and prepare students for impactful careers in sport and recreation.

Integrating Physical Literacy into Student Learning

Through this partnership, Georgian College students have access to Sport for Life’s comprehensive Physical Literacy Leader certification curriculum at no cost to the institution. Faculty deliver specialized workshops directly within courses, providing students with practical, evidence-based tools for creating inclusive sport and physical activity experiences.

Students interested in pursuing official Sport for Life certification have a streamlined pathway. Rather than completing workshops independently, they only need to complete the eLearning courses and quizzes through Sport for Life’s Campus at a discounted rate—maximizing efficiency and value for learners.

Workshop topics integrated into the program include:

Building Competencies for Tomorrow’s Leaders

The combination of a Georgian College credential and Sport for Life’s Physical Literacy Leader certification creates a powerful advantage for graduates entering the workforce. Students gain specialized competencies that employers actively seek: the ability to assess and develop physical literacy across diverse populations, design inclusive programming that removes barriers to participation, and apply evidence-based approaches to movement education.

These skills translate directly into professional practice, whether graduates pursue careers in community recreation, school-based programs, sport coaching, or health promotion. They’re equipped to work with participants of all ages and abilities, creating environments where everyone can develop confidence and competence in physical activity—a foundation for lifelong health and well-being.

“Georgian College is a tremendous addition to our growing community of post-secondary partners,” said Thalia Moore, Senior Manager of Education at Sport for Life. “Through this partnership, we’re empowering more students with the knowledge and credentials to become leaders in physical literacy, ultimately strengthening communities throughout Canada.”

Institutional Support and Vision

Georgian College shares this vision for preparing future leaders in physical literacy. “What makes this collaboration so valuable is how naturally it fits within our program framework. Our students gain a recognized credential that opens doors in the field, and we’re able to offer it without stretching our resources or adding costs for learners. It’s a win-win that directly supports our commitment to student success and career readiness,” noted Jillian Robertson, Coordinator of Sport Administration and Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Georgian College.

Expanding Access to Physical Literacy Education

This partnership model demonstrates Sport for Life’s commitment to scaling physical literacy knowledge across Canada’s educational landscape. By embedding certification opportunities directly into existing programs, the organization removes traditional barriers—both financial and logistical—that students might face when pursuing professional development.

Post-secondary institutions looking to enhance their curriculum with industry-recognized credentials are encouraged to explore partnership opportunities with Sport for Life. These collaborations provide students with tangible career advantages while advancing the broader goal of creating more physically literate communities nationwide.
