Sport for Life’s vision is for everyone to have the opportunity to participate in quality sport and physical literacy experiences. We believe that to truly build quality sport and physical literacy, no one can be left behind. In our efforts to reduce inequalities for persons with disabilities, Sport for Life partnered with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities to develop a new e-learning resource for sport and physical activity leaders, called “Welcome All Abilities”; part of a larger “Coaching Kids of All Abilities” resource. This resource is intended to provide coaches and youth leaders with practical information and tools to ensure their sports are inclusive, so every child has a chance to fulfill their dreams.
This resource was created in partnership with the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability, Canucks Autism Network, Coaching Association Canada and Défi sportif AlterGo—all of them experts on inclusive sport and physical activity space.
These resources have the potential to reach across boundaries. We recognize that all kids are different, with unique motivators, barriers, and coaching needs. The principles outlined in this course serve as a foundation, and are not intended to be prescriptive; rather we encourage you to build your program based on the specific needs of the kids you lead.
The Coaching Kids of All Abilities resource is available at coachingallabilities.com, and the first 10,000 users can access the e-learnings for free following its launch at the 2019 Sport for Life Canadian Summit in Gatineau, Quebec.
Until February 23, 2019, there are free registrations available by using code JSS4L-Z8Y3N5J. Access the resource now by visiting the resources tab at jumpstart.canadiantire.ca.
