Our Physical Literacy certifications provide a pathway for front-line workers to enhance their competence and understanding of physical literacy concepts.
Starting with Level 1, participants gain a solid foundation in the principles of physical literacy and learn how to cultivate a sense of belonging in sport and physical activity.
As they progress through Levels 2 and 3, individuals delve deeper into designing and delivering quality programs that effectively enhance physical literacy development, with a particular focus on inclusive practices and experiences for diverse populations.
Two streams are available for Level 3:
- Active for Life: The flexible programming in this certification provides participants with various elective modules to choose from as they build the components of this advanced designation to fit the demands of their careers.
- Assessment: This certification recognizes advanced training in physical literacy assessment using PLAY Tools.

Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1
Foundations of Physical Literacy

Attain advanced recognition with the Physical Literacy Leader – Level 3 certification with the Active for Life specialization. Certified Level 3s are acknowledged for their advanced physical literacy knowledge and skills. This flexible program offers a variety of elective modules, allowing participants to customize their certification and address the specific demands of their career. Expand your expertise in physical literacy and become a trusted leader in promoting lifelong physical activity and well-being.
Completion of two further eLearnings and two further workshops is required, alongside completion of workshop-specific quizzes, for certification at this level.

Designed to develop and support good people, good places, and good programs, these certifications support sport leaders (locally, provincially/territorially, and nationally), recreation leaders, and sport funders to build and offer exceptional sport experiences in communities. This certification equips them with the tools to design developmentally appropriate activities that promote fun, inclusivity, and skill development.
By fostering a supportive environment and prioritizing the well-being of participants, you will be elevating sport experiences to new heights.
Level 1 provides a foundational understanding of what it takes to offer quality sport experiences in our communities, familiarizing leaders and coaches with the Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity framework, and its stages of development.

Certified individuals gain a comprehensive understanding of the Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity framework. Through this certification, you will become familiar with the primary objectives of each stage of development. By acquiring this knowledge, you will be equipped to create engaging, safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate sport and physical literacy experiences for individuals of all ages and abilities.
