New-to-Canada Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity Pathway
This resource provides a dedicated pathway for the inclusion and long-term development of New-to-Canada participants within sport and physical activity. The objective of this pathway is to support both organizations that assist newcomers during their settlement journey and sport and physical activity organizations that aim to create welcoming and inclusive environments. This “New-to-Canada Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity Pathway” offers crucial considerations and practical strategies. Building on the foundational principles of Sport for Life’s Long-Term Development framework, this resource has been specifically conceptualized for the newcomer experience to:
- address the unique circumstances and diverse journeys of New-to-Canada participants, recognizing that their entry into sport and physical activity may differ significantly based on their backgrounds, experiences, and settlement processes.
- equip stakeholders with practical tools and understanding to overcome common barriers faced by newcomers, such as language differences, cultural unfamiliarity, financial constraints, and access to information, thereby fostering a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem.
- promote social cohesion, enhance health and wellness, and establish strong community connections for newcomers, aligning immigration and resettlement outcomes with the multifaceted benefits of sport and physical activity, and strengthening the entire Canadian sport and physical activity sector.
