Becoming a Sport for Life Community (full-day)
The community is the first place everyone experiences physical activity and sport. Sport for Life provides the framework to ensure these experiences are positive and sets the stage for a lifelong relationship with physical activity.
Municipal recreation, community leaders and community sport stakeholders are increasingly concerned about the health and wellness of their communities. This workshop will provide an opportunity for cross-sectoral collaboration, enabling health, education, recreation, sport and other stakeholders to work together, applying the principles of Long-Term Community Development in their efforts to create active, productive and engaged citizens. Topics covered will include the Sport for Life framework and physical literacy concepts, Becoming a Sport for Life Community Self Assessment and sharing of Sport for Life success stories from communities across Canada. Participants will return to their communities with goals, resources and a network to support them on their path to “Becoming a Sport for Life Community”.
