Sport for Life’s physical literacy certification pathway now includes two levels. Physical Literacy Leader – Level 2 is now available on Sport for Life Campus, giving practitioners a clear next step after completing Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1.

Where Level 1 introduces the foundations of physical literacy, social-emotional learning, and belonging, Level 2 focuses on application. The certification helps learners strengthen their ability to design and deliver inclusive, high-quality physical literacy experiences that support long-term participation in physical activity.

Built around program quality, inclusive delivery, and cultural awareness, Level 2 gives recreation leaders, educators, coaches, public health professionals, and students practical tools to create environments where participants can build competence, confidence, and motivation to move.

What’s Inside

Physical Literacy Leader – Level 2 includes content on cultural awareness, inclusive physical literacy, and quality physical literacy experiences, along with assessments to demonstrate applied understanding.

Learners choose two of the following three cultural awareness courses:

They also complete two core modules:

Together, these courses help learners move beyond foundational knowledge and into intentional program design, inclusive delivery, and meaningful participant engagement.

Who It’s For

This certification is designed for individuals who have completed Physical Literacy Leader – Level 1, including recreation leaders, program coordinators, public health professionals, educators beyond the elementary years, and post-secondary students in kinesiology, recreation, wellness, health, and education programs.

It is especially relevant for learners who already understand the foundations of physical literacy and want to strengthen how they apply those principles in real programs, with real participants, across diverse communities.

A Growing Pathway for Post-Secondary Institutions

Sport for Life’s Post-Secondary Partnership Program supports institutions in integrating certification content into academic courses at no cost to the institution. Faculty deliver workshop content within their programs, then students can choose to complete on-demand learning and assessments on Sport for Life Campus at a reduced rate. This allows students to graduate with both their degree and a professionally recognized credential.

The program has continued to grow since Sport for Life last shared its expansion from four to 16 partners. It now includes 20 post-secondary institutions across Canada, spanning kinesiology, recreation, education, and sport management programs in English and French.

With Level 2 now available, partner institutions have a progressive pathway to share with students who want to continue beyond Level 1 and deepen their ability to design inclusive, high-quality physical literacy experiences.

Institutions not yet in the program can learn more about how the partnership works: From 4 Partners to 16: How Sport for Life’s Post-Secondary Partnership Program Grew in One Year
