Early Bird Registration opens June 10 for International Physical Literacy Conference (IPLC) 2026, taking place October 1–3 at the Centre de Congrès Pierre Baudis in Toulouse, France. Over three days, more than 300 participants from over 30 countries — researchers, practitioners, educators, coaches, and policymakers — will gather under the theme “Stronger Together through Movement.”

If you’ve been to IPLC before, you know the program is only part of it. The other part is what happens between sessions — the hallway conversation where a researcher from one country describes a study that mirrors what a practitioner two continents away has been doing for years, and by the end of the coffee break, they’re planning something together.

What You’ll Explore: Four Streams

Each stream features research presentations, case studies, innovative practices, and practical tools, with content suited to a range of experience levels. Whether you’ve been building this work for two decades or you’re just starting to figure out what physical literacy means in your context, there is something pitched at your level.

1. Physical Literacy for Everyone

Advancing equitable access through inclusive and adapted programming for lifelong development of physical literacy.

2. Health and Prevention

Addressing inactivity and supporting wellbeing through physical literacy.

3. Research and Innovation

Advancing evidence, evaluation, and emerging practices.

4. Quality Environments

Creating safe, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate experiences.

“The conversations between sessions are where the real work begins.”

— Drew Mitchell, CEO, Sport for Life

Keynote Speakers

We’re finalizing an exciting lineup of keynote speakers from across the health, education, sport, and recreation sectors. Names will be announced in the coming weeks — stay tuned.

The Program

Alongside keynotes and stream presentations, expect panel discussions, active workshops, networking events, and socials across three days of programming. Mark your calendars — this is a program you don’t want to miss.

Who Should Be There

If your work connects to physical literacy or physical activity in any way, this conference is built for you. IPLC draws researchers and academics, education leaders, PE teachers, coaches and trainers, sports professionals, public health officials, policymakers, community leaders, and NGO representatives. Whether you’re on the front lines of program delivery or shaping the policies behind it, you’ll find your people here.

Why Toulouse

Toulouse is known as La Ville Rose for its warm pink brick architecture, which catches the southern light. The conference venue sits in the city centre, beside the Compans-Caffarelli gardens and a short walk from the Canal du Midi.

Within a couple of hours by train, you can reach the medieval city of Carcassonne, the vineyards of Bordeaux, or the Mediterranean coast — easy to add a day before or after the conference. Toulouse is also one of Europe’s most active university and research hubs, making it a natural fit for IPLC’s focus on connecting evidence, policy, and practice.
